Flight and Space

The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through Flight and Space. Students will explore the science behind aeronautics and use their knowledge to design, build, and test and airfoil. Custom-built simulation software allows students to experience space travel.

LEGO Robotics

The LEGO EV3 elective is designed to introduce students to the world of computer programming, coding, engineering, and robotics through the use of LEGO Mindstorms robotics equipment. This course starts with students constructing a basic robot and coding it to complete simple tasks such as navigating obstacle courses and moving objects. As the semester continues, students add sensors and additional motors to complete more difficult tasks. The semester culminates with the LEGO Factory Robot Challenge, where students must use all they have learned to complete a "real-life" LEGO Group Factory automation task.

Advanced LEGO Robotics

The Advanced LEGO EV3 elective is designed to progress students' knowledge and practice of computer programming, coding, engineering, and robotics through the use of LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics equipment and official First LEGO League competition mats and obstacles. This course starts with students constructing a basic robot and coding it to complete simple tasks including using sensors as inputs and multiple motors and outputs. Tasks such as navigating obstacle courses and moving objects, problem solving, and creative design engineering are addressed. Each separate task will then be paired with a similar obstacle on the competition mat to complete. The semester culminates with a class-wide competition using the First LEGO League Regional competition set and rules.

Must have taken LEGO Robotics previously.

STEM Medical Detectives

Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study DNA evidence found at a "crime scene." They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, investigate how to measure and interpret vital signs, and learn how the systems of the human body work together to maintain health.

STEM 1

STEM 1 is an introduction to design and modeling. Students apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design a playground and furniture, capturing research and ideas in their engineering notebooks. Using Autodesk design software, students create a virtual image of their designs and produce a portfolio to showcase their innovative solutions.
