Chico Unified has been fortunate to offer an after school program at Bidwell and Chico Junior High schools (BLAST) for the last ten years. This has afforded us the opportunity to serve approximately 168 students each year. The program currently functions under one grant, the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC), which is a federal grant. The continuation of the BLAST After School Program depends upon receipt of federal funding

Applications for the upcoming school year will be given out to currently enrolled BLAST 6th and 7th graders with a deadline to return the application to ensure enrollment for next fall. Current BLAST students have priority along with their incoming 6th grade siblings. Following the 6th Grade Parent Night we will open up applications for incoming 6th graders who we will LOTTERY available spots into the BLAST program. We will then offer any openings/or ability to maintain current spot on waiting list to families currently on the 2018-2019 waiting list. Once all the openings are filled, a waiting list will be established for the remaining applicants. Starting on May 6, applications will be available at BLAST and the Junior High School offices, and Bidwell and Chico Jr. Websites, for anyone interested in applying for the 2019-2020 BLAST After School Program. Registration continues throughout the year.

The 21st CCLC grant has specific attendance criteria. It is the expectation that those enrolled in the BLAST program will adhere to the daily attendance policy of at least (4) days per week and stay until 5:00 p.m.

If your child does not receive a spot or if the attendance requirement does not work for your family, there may be opportunities to enroll your student at the Boys and Girls Club. You may reach the Boys and Girls Club at: (530) 899-0335.

Sincerely,
